As people have mentioned - we were getting silly amounts of spam-bots signing up to this place.

Despite keeping up to date with PHPBB it escalated over the last couple of weeks to about 25 - 50 bots a day! Because of this over the last few months I've had to set new accounts to manual activation, and trying to go through it all manually was getting silly.

In order to try and solve this problem, I have now installed several security mods on the forum, including some admin tools that allowed me to mass delete all the bots and inactive usersnames. Now our memberlist is actual people only!!

Also, I have added a security question to the forum signup page, which seems to have stemmed the tide of automated bots. Touch wood, since yesterday we have had none, and it was pushing close to 50 a day this week!!

Seeing as this seems to be working, I have set forum sign-ups back to automatic again, where users can activate their own accounts via email. I appreciate we probably lost a few people over the last 6 months that didn't get their accounts activated because I missed them, so hopefully we should see a few new faces here again. (And indeed, first new user in a while today).

If you know people who like this sort of music please encourage them to join the forum - a few fresh faces wouldn't go a miss to try and get this place buzzing a bit more!
