I am currently reading 'Sovereign' by CJ Sansom, the third in the Matthew Shardlake series. I really cannot recommend this series highly enough! It's based in the Tudor period and deals with the work of a lawyer, Matthew Shardlake, who has to be one of my favorite fictional creations in ages. I really am not a fan of historical based fiction generally, I only read this because the person who recommended it to me has very similar taste and has not sent me wrong with a recommendation yet. I decided to give it a go despite my bias and I'm so glad I did! CJ Sansom writes about the period as if he lived in it, it feels so real, all the attention to detail makes you feel as if you could just step into the world he's talking about. I love the characters, the plots are always intriguing and the political machinations, the religious upheaval and the atmosphere of the time are just fascinating. I find it very hard to put the books down! _________________ Kiss my aaaaartichokes |

Recently I have read
The Lady Elisabeth - Alison Weir: As a bit of a Tudor Geek I loved it instantly...Second book from her and I <3'd Innocent Traitor. Can't wait for Phllipa Gregory's new one to come out either
The Shakespeare Secret - by someone non descript: It was a watered Down Da Vinci Style "Quest" But they actually found what they were after (except the real identity of "Shakespeare". Half of it didn't make sense to me but it was a nice mind numbing read for a couple of days.
Have moved onto In Search Of A Distant Voice by TaiChi Tamada recommended by none other than Mrs Prawn. Tis lovely so far Half way through, well just over half way through and I only started it last night. Although its only a short novel at about 200 pages. I want to pick up more _________________

I've just finished reading "Blind Faith" by Ben Elton.
Whilst, given some of his recent offerings, I was expecting this to be terrible, I'd been bought it a while back and thought I'd give it a try and I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. Although the idea is a complete rehash of one of my favourite books (1984) without being as inventive, it was a very enjoyable read. I'd definitely recommend it to fans of Ben Elton who have been put off by things like "The 1st Casualty" and "Chart Throb" as it looks like a return to form, still some way away from the dizzying heights of "Popcorn" though... |

Fatal Revenant: The third and final chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.
Yes, it's the eighth book in the trilogy, and it's heaps better than the opener (Runes Of The Earth) for this part of the tales, with there being a bit more actually happening and a bit less character building. I guess it really confirms what I thought about the book before it, that it was only to set the scene to make the next two books work. |

Just finished Silverthorn by Raymond E Feist. Considering Magician (the prequel) is one of my favourite books, it's remarkable it's taken me 10 years before getting round to reading this. _________________

A Game of Thrones – George RR Martin
The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya – Nagaru Tanigawa
